Everything you need to know about vegan protein and supplements.

With it being World Vegan month and recently, the release of the new Game Changers Movie Documentary there has been a lot of interest in the vegan diet and lifestyle, how to incorporate more plant based foods into every day diets and how to make healthier decisions in general.

If you have been living under a rock and haven’t watched it yet, we highly recommend you do so! You can find all the information here: .

The documentary follows the journey of former UFC fighter James Wilks who, while recovering from an injury, travels around the world and connects with elite athletes that follow plant-based diets. Some athletes that made appearances include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nimai Delgado, Morgan Mitch, Patrik Baboumian, and Dotsie Bausch.

The documentary focuses heavily on health and performance, we were left inspired and motivated with all the amazing vegan athletes and what they are achieving in the world. With this, we have also had many questions about vegan protein, supplements and how to get enough. So we thought it would be fitting to answer some of your questions!

Is all protein the same?

Proteins are an essential macronutrient that are present in every cell in our body. They are vital in providing structure and allowing our bodies to function by building and maintaining tissues, bones, muscles, cartilage and skin.

Proteins can be derived from many sources. They are not exclusive to animal based sources. Popular plant based sources include legumes, grains, vegetables and soy, they all contain protein! These plant-based proteins offer many unique health benefits.

When it comes to vegan protein powders, the most common sources include brown rice, soy, hemp and pea protein. The majority of carbohydrates, including sugar and starches, are removed so the result is a powder high in protein. Just like whey protein, this can then be easily mixed with water, plant based milks, recipes or enjoyed how you wish!

Why vegan protein?

Many people have or are using whey protein, which is based on milk. This can be extremely difficult to absorb and for your body to use – many people are also lactose intolerant. Whey protein can also tend to be highly processed, with many ingredients and additives included that are not easily recognisable.

Plant-based alternatives are easier on your body, at RawFIT our certified organic proteins contain no synthetic or artificial ingredients also including papain to ensure maximum absorption and digestibility.

Amino Acids and Complete Protein?

There are 21 amino acids our body requires to function. These are all available in plant-based proteins. Out of the 21 amino acids, there are 9 that are classed as essential, tis means that our body cannot synthesise or produce this amino acids and instead they must be obtained through food.

A complete protein is a food that contains all the recommended amino acids in the required ratio. Combining vegan sources including legumes and grains or nuts will give you the full spectrum of amino acids! It’s that simple!

Why add a vegan protein powder to your diet?

It is super easy to incorporate some extra protein into your diet. Adding a good, high-quality protein powder will keep you satiated and fuller for longer. If you are currently using a whey based protein powder, making the switch is super easy and with our delicious protein we guarantee you will never look back! This is a super easy way to make sure you are still hitting your protein targets and macronutrients for the day!

Why does quality matter?

It is definitely worth noting that not all vegan powders created on the market are the same.

Always educate yourself and read your labels! Go through the ingredient list and always put quality first. Don’t get tempted and sucked into the first triple chocolate cheesecake or birthday cake flavour that catches your attention!

While it is true, if you just look at macros – it’s easy to think they’re all the same. You may notice an improvement in your fitness performance or not notice any difference at all. However, in the long run choosing a high quality protein will always be the better choice for every aspect.

At Amazonia and RawFIT, we’ve included everything you need and nothing you don’t – we have a variety of different ranges of high quality, certified organic, non synthetic plant-based proteins available in multiple delicious flavour options, naturally sweetened and flavoured without the use of any artificial ingredients. ” I put every preconception I had about nutrition to the test, traveling to four continents to meet with dozens of the world’s strongest, fastest, and toughest athletes, as well as leading experts on athletics, nutrition, and anthropology.

What I discovered was so revolutionary, with such profound implications for human performance and health — and even the future of the planet itself — that I had to share it with the world.” — James Wilks
